Practice Of Aesthetic Medicine In Malaysia
In Malaysian, it is obligatory for medical doctors who plan to practice Aesthetic Medicine to undergo an assessment conducted by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) to obtain his / her Letter of Credentialing & Privileging (LCP). The practice of Aesthetic Medicine in Malaysia is rather unique. For example, in some countries, it is a self-regulated practice where the doctors undergo theoretical and clinical training on his / her own accord and consequently are allowed to practice evidence-based procedures diligently. For example, in Australia, it is deemed as a self-regulating medical practice where the Doctors undergo structured theoretical and clinical training on his / her own accord and practices evidence-based procedures diligently. In Singapore it is somewhat the same, but Doctors are required to undergo an interview with the regulators. It is somewhat of an oath taking process where you solemnly swear to do the right thing, rather than an examination.
Who Can Practice Aesthetic Medicine?
In Malaysia, however, it is more stringent and well-structured. The Ministry of Health (Malaysia) has constituted a specified division under “Amalan Perubatan” to solely monitor the practice of Aesthetic Medicine in Malaysia. They are responsible to develop the guidelines which includes evaluation of eligible medical doctors’ aesthetic knowledge and skills via an examination and VIVA. Doctors who pass the exam are eligible to practice Aesthetic Medicine legally in Malaysia.
Guideline On Aesthetic Medical Practice
The Guideline on Aesthetic Medical Practice, which explains the requirements to practice Aesthetic Medicine in Malaysia came under the purview of the Main Credentialing and Privileging Committee of Aesthetic Medical Practice. This Main Committee is under the purview of the Director General of Health, who then appoints a Sub-Committee which implements the directives of the Main Committee. The members of the Sub-Committee are responsible to monitor the assessment affairs, professionally.
